An estimated 6,000 people attended the Hands Off! protest in Geneva, IL last Saturday, lining the sidewalks on both sides of Route 38 with people standing two or three deep - beyond Rt 25, over the bridge to Rt 31.
Motivated citizens rallied to demonstrate their opposition to the Trump administration's policies and actions such as gutting government agencies, denying due process, and limiting free speech among many other concerns. Protest-goers commented that the camaraderie was upbeat, inclusive of all ages (some even brought their dogs), and most importantly - non-violent. There was also tremendous support from those passing by in vehicles with many passers-by honking and giving the thumbs up to attendees.
The League of Women Voters is proud to advocate for our democracy and upholding our rights. The main take away from this protest - we are not alone and we can make our voices heard! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
